You might ask why would one want to use natural handcrafted soap rather than the kind you find at your local drugstore or department store.  Well, there is quite a difference between the two.  Aside from the fact that natural soaps are good for your skin, commercial soaps are actually not soap at all, but detergents.  During World War I, fats and oils were scarce so commercial soapmakers sought alternatives.  So was born synthetic detergents which have stayed around and become the norm today.  Natural soaps ARE actually soap.  They're not drying but nourishing and gentle to the skin.

Also, handmade soaps retain their natural glycerin (a natural by-product of the soapmaking process which attracts moisture to the skin).  Many commercial soapmakers remove the glycerin for use in other products.

I make my soaps in small batches right here in my 1850's farmhouse in Steep Falls, Maine.  Each bar is handcut and wrapped.  I use all natural ingredients, nothing synthetic, nothing harsh (and no animal testing!).  Everything is tested on myself, family and friends. And oh, the scents of natural essential oils!  Lever 2000 just cannot compare!
